GM. This is Dumb Money — the newsletter that tracks how regular people light their savings on fire so you can learn from their mistakes.
Today's theme is urgency. Specifically, fake urgency, engineered by people who wanted your money before you had time to think.
$145,750 in combined losses across a fake token presale, a paid stock newsletter's pump, and a leveraged bot nobody was watching. Here's what we've got today:
⏳ Loss of the Day — Wired $67,000 to a "presale wallet" a Discord DM said was closing in one hour. The DM was from a hacked admin account.: $67,000
📰 Casualty #1 — Bought a micro-cap on margin after a $2,000/year newsletter called a "coordinated accumulation." The newsletter's own holders sold into it.: $48,900
🤖 Casualty #2 — Left a 20x leveraged grid bot running overnight with no stop-loss. A flash crash liquidated it while he slept.: $29,850
🤣 Dumb Memes — Because laughter is free (unlike these trades).

Immediately after secretly redacting 750 White House files behind closed doors…
President Donald J. Trump wrote a check worth $300 million of his own money and strangely enough… didn't utter a single word about it to the cameras.
Even more fascinating, it turns out, Trump's not acting alone…
If you follow the money trail…
Jeff Bezos, Warren Buffett, Bill Gates… even an up-and-coming tech titan who the late Charlie Munger referred to as, "the new emperor of the world"… have all poured billions into the same area.
LOSS OF THE DAY 🏆
Every day we crown one person who made the single worst financial decision on the internet.
Today's winner got a DM that said "closing in one hour." He should have let it close.
Here's the setup.
u/whitelist_believer got a direct message from what looked like an admin of a token project's official Discord. "Guaranteed whitelist spot. Presale closing in one hour. Send to this wallet."
He had $37,000 in crypto already. To hit the minimum for "guaranteed allocation," he took out a crypto-backed loan against his BTC holdings for another $30,000.
He wired $67,000 to a "presale wallet" a DM said was closing in one hour.
The admin account was compromised. It wasn't run by the project at all — someone had hijacked it hours earlier and was DMing every member on the server the same message.
The wallet drained the instant funds arrived. The real project posted a warning about the hack forty minutes later. Forty minutes too late for him.
There was no presale. There was never going to be a presale. The project doesn't do private allocations at all.
$67,000 gone, plus a $30,000 loan against his BTC that's still due regardless of what happened to the money.

Here's what makes this hall-of-fame level: the real project has never done a private presale in its two-year history. That information was in their own public FAQ the entire time.

TODAY'S CASUALTIES 💀
Not everybody can be Loss of the Day. But these two gave it a real shot.
Casualty #1: The Newsletter Subscriber
There's a phrase paid stock newsletters use that should trigger an immediate exit. That phrase is "coordinated accumulation."
u/newsletter_alpha paid $2,000 a year for a stock newsletter that flagged a micro-cap as the target of a "coordinated accumulation" by informed buyers.
He bought in on margin near the top of the resulting rally, expecting the "coordination" to keep pushing the price up.
The newsletter's own operators had accumulated the stock weeks earlier, at a fraction of the price, and sold directly into the rally they'd just told subscribers to chase.
The stock dropped 78% over the next three sessions. Margin call wiped the position. $48,900, gone.

Quick math on pump-and-dump math for non-traders: if a newsletter's picks always seem to spike right after publication and fade right after, the newsletter isn't finding momentum — it's creating it, and its own holdings are the first thing sold into the volume it generates.

Casualty #2: The Grid Bot Guy
This one's about a promise every automated trading tool makes: "set it and forget it."
u/grid_bot_gary set up a grid trading bot on 20x leveraged BTC perpetuals, marketed as hands-off passive income. He left it running overnight without setting a stop-loss.
A flash crash wiped through the bot's entire grid range while he was asleep, and the bot kept buying every leg down exactly as programmed.
By the time he woke up, the position had been liquidated for three hours. $29,850, gone, with zero notifications because he'd muted the app.

He has since turned notifications back on.

TODAY BY THE NUMBERS 📊
Every newsletter needs a meme section. Ours just hits different on a day when "closing in one hour" cost someone $67,000.

If you laughed, you've never gotten a DM from an "official account." If you winced, check your notification settings.
See you tomorrow. Same losses. Different people. Exact same mistakes.
