GM. This is Dumb Money Daily, where your worst trade is someone else’s content.
The market had a week. Netflix dropped 5.1% after beating earnings. The semiconductor sector lost $1.7 trillion in market cap despite every company reporting strong results.
And nearly one million people discovered that a presidential memecoin is still, at its core, a memecoin.
Four stories. All of them involve someone ignoring information that was freely available to them.
Here’s what we’ve got today:
🏆 $146K into a presidential memecoin. Down 79.5%. Trump made $636M.
📈 ASML beat estimates. His calls still went to zero.
⚡ Sold a straddle on the chip ETF. The $1.7 trillion selloff disagreed.
🏦 An “auto-compounding vault” with 85% APY. The bridge got hacked.
🤣 Dumb memes from the trenches.

| TODAY’S DAMAGE REPORT 📊 | |||||||||
| |||||||||
|
Immediately after secretly redacting 750 White House files behind closed doors…
President Donald J. Trump wrote a check worth $300 million of his own money and strangely enough… didn't utter a single word about it to the cameras.
Even more fascinating, it turns out, Trump's not acting alone…
If you follow the money trail…
Jeff Bezos, Warren Buffett, Bill Gates… even an up-and-coming tech titan who the late Charlie Munger referred to as, "the new emperor of the world"… have all poured billions into the same area.
LOSS OF THE DAY 🏆
Every day we crown one person who made the single worst financial decision on the internet.
Today’s winner bet his retirement on patriotism. The patriotism did not hold.
Here’s the setup.
A Redditor named u/freedomhodler_1776 had $146,000 in savings. Not life-changing money for some. His entire net worth for him.
Back in January, he discovered the $TRUMP token. A memecoin endorsed by the sitting President of the United States.
His thesis: “It’s literally backed by the president. How can it go to zero?”
He put all $146,000 into $TRUMP at $58 per token.
Not a small allocation. Not “play money.” His retirement savings. Every dollar.
The token peaked near $75. He felt like a genius for about three weeks.
Then it started bleeding. Slowly at first. Then faster. Six months later, $TRUMP trades at $11.91.
His 2,517 tokens are now worth $29,977. That’s a 79.5% loss.

| |||||
| |||||
|
| ||||||
Here’s the thing. This isn’t an isolated incident.
Blockchain analytics firm Nansen found that nearly one million wallets that bought $TRUMP lost money. Combined losses among those wallets: $3.81 billion.
Meanwhile, Trump personally made $636 million from the coin.
He made $636 million. His supporters lost $3.81 billion. On a coin with his name on it.
That’s the part worth understanding.
The coin had no utility. No roadmap. No product. The whitepaper was a campaign slogan with a blockchain address attached to it.
The only thing it produced was liquidity. Specifically, liquidity that flowed from retail wallets to insiders.
| 🧠 Quick primer on memecoins for the uninitiated: When you buy a stock, you're buying a share of a company that makes money. When you buy a memecoin, you're buying a token that goes up only if someone else buys it after you. That's the entire thesis: “someone will pay more than I did.” When that stops being true, the value goes to zero. Or in this case, $11.91. |

TODAY'S CASUALTIES 💀
Not everybody can be Loss of the Day. But these three gave it a real shot.
Let’s run through the tape.
Casualty #1: The “They Beat Estimates” Guy
ASML makes the machines that make the chips that power AI. They are, by most measures, irreplaceable.
Last week, ASML maintained its full-year guidance. Revenue beat. Bookings beat. Every metric pointed up.
u/chip_stacker_420 saw the results and made what he thought was the most rational trade of his life.
He bought 80 ASML $1,050 weekly call contracts. $52,350 in premium.
One problem: the entire semiconductor sector was in the middle of a $1.7 trillion selloff.
TSMC beat earnings. Stock dropped. ASML beat estimates. Stock dropped. SK Hynix reported record demand. Stock rose.
Five chip companies beat this month. Four still saw their stocks drop.
His 80 contracts expired worthless. $52,350, vaporized in five trading days.
He posted: “I had the fundamentals right. The market was wrong.”
The market is never wrong. That’s the first thing they teach you. It’s also the last thing anyone remembers.

| |||||
| |||||
|
| ||||||
| This phenomenon has a name: “sell the news.” Even when a company reports perfect results, if the stock already rallied in anticipation, traders take profits on the announcement. This month, five major chip companies beat expectations. Four of five still saw their stocks drop afterward. Being right about the business doesn't mean being right about the stock. Not this week. |
Casualty #2: The Straddle That Straddled Nothing
Here’s a trade that sounds smart on paper: sell a straddle.
You sell a call AND a put at the same strike price. If the stock doesn’t move much, you keep the premium from both sides.
u/theta_gang_general sold a straddle on SMH, the semiconductor ETF. The day before TSMC reported earnings.
His reasoning: TSMC would beat (it did). The sector would stay flat (it did not).
He collected $6,200 in premium. SMH dropped 6.8% in two days. His put side went catastrophically in the money.
The $6,200 in collected premium was swallowed by $45,100 in losses on the put leg. Net loss: $38,900.
He posted: “Straddles work 70% of the time. Today was the other 30%.”
That math is correct. The problem is the 30% doesn’t lose you 30%. It loses you everything.

| What's a short straddle? You sell both a call and a put at the same strike price. If the stock stays flat, you keep the premium. If it moves big in either direction, your losses are potentially unlimited. It's a bet on nothing happening. This week, something happened. |

Casualty #3: The “Multi-Chain Yield Optimizer”
This is the one that actually hurts to write.
u/passive_income_king had a plan. Stack yield. Let compound interest do the work. Retire early.
He found a DeFi protocol called AutoYield. It promised 85% APY through “multi-chain yield optimization.”
Here’s what the red flags looked like:
The protocol launched three weeks ago.
The team was anonymous. Not “privacy-focused anonymous.” Just anonymous.
The website had a stock photo of a calculator as its hero image.
The audit was “pending” — and had been “pending” since launch.
He staked $34,750. His entire emergency fund.
The protocol’s cross-chain bridge got exploited. Every dollar, drained.
The hack took fourteen minutes. The Discord went read-only. Then it was deleted.
The protocol’s Twitter account posted one final message: “We are investigating the incident.”
They are not investigating the incident.
| |||||
| |||||
| |||||
|
| ||||||
| For anyone keeping score: in the first half of 2026, DeFi protocols lost $1.3 billion to hacks across 344 incidents – about $7.2 million per day, every day, for six months. Bridge exploits are one of the most common attack vectors. If a protocol moves money between blockchains, that bridge is the weak point. And if the protocol launched three weeks ago with a “pending” audit, you're not staking. You're donating. |

The correlation between perfect earnings and portfolio destruction reached new highs this week. Five chip companies, five beats, four stock drops. The fundamentals have never been better. The chart has never cared less.

BITE-SIZED COPIUM FOR THE ROAD 🍩
The best part of any loss thread isn't the screenshot. It's the comments. Here are today's greatest hits.
| • | “It's the president's coin. He wouldn't let it go to zero.” He didn't let it go to zero. He let it go to $11.91. Important distinction. – u/patriot_bags |
| • | “ASML beat estimates. The stock dropping is manipulation.” It's not manipulation, it's a rotation. One has a conspiracy, the other has a Bloomberg terminal. – u/semi_bull_forever |
| • | “Straddles work 70% of the time. I just hit the 30%.” The 70% makes you $6K. The 30% costs you $39K. That's not a strategy, that's a casino with extra steps. – u/premium_collector_oops |
| • | “The audit was pending. I thought that meant it was coming soon.” It wasn't coming soon. It wasn't coming at all. – u/yield_chaser_99 |
Translation: the copium supply remains fully stocked. The self-awareness supply remains on backorder.
