GM. This is Dumb Money, where your worst trade is someone else's content.
The OpenAI revenue miss heard round the world hit Thursday. AI stocks cratered. The Fed stayed hawkish. And someone on Base chain discovered that "buy" doesn't always come with "sell."
Three traders. Three different ways to lose money. One shared conviction that they were smarter than the market.
Here's what we've got today:
🏆 CRWV weekly calls. OpenAI's revenue was $20B lower than expected. His calls were not priced for that.
📉 60x long ETH. "Uptober always pumps." Uptober did not pump.
⚡ A memecoin you can buy but cannot sell. $22,400, trapped forever.
📊 The data on today's carnage. It is worse than you think.

Iran's New Leader Just Said Something That Should Terrify
Iran's new Supreme Leader made an announcement that could trigger the largest financial crisis since 2008.
"Iran will keep the Strait of Hormuz shut as leverage against the United States."
40% of the world's oil passes through the Strait of Hormuz. It's been effectively closed since the Iran war started.
Oil just crossed $100 per barrel.
But here's the part that should terrify you: Every oil crisis in modern history has ended the same way.
1973 Oil Crisis: Gold surged from $35 to $200 (571% gain)
1979 Oil Crisis: Gold exploded from $200 to $850 (425% gain)
This time is different. This time could be exponentially bigger.
The U.S. government has 8,133 tonnes of gold sitting in Fort Knox, valued on the books at $42.22 per ounce.
With gold trading above $5,000, that's a $750 billion accounting error.
President Trump has the legal authority to fix it with a single signature.
When he does, gold wouldn't just rally. It would explode to unprecedented levels.
$7,000? $10,000? $15,000?
The smart money knows this. They're positioning now, while most Americans are focused on gas prices.
That's why I've partnered with American Alternative Assets to bring you The Great Gold Reset.
LOSS OF THE DAY 🏆
Every day we crown one person who made the worst financial decision on the internet.
Today's winner went all-in on AI infrastructure. Not a GPU. Not a server rack. Weekly options on a company that rents them.
Here's the setup. A user on r/options found CoreWeave. The AI cloud company. Ticker: CRWV. Stock was trading near $89.
His thesis was two sentences. OpenAI needs CoreWeave's GPUs. Therefore, CRWV can only go up.
One problem: he didn't verify the revenue numbers. Nobody on Reddit verified the revenue numbers.
He bought 300 weekly call contracts. $87 strike. $4.25 per share. That's $127,500 in premium on a position that expires in five days.
On October 8, the Financial Times reported OpenAI's annualized revenue was $50 billion. Sounds impressive until you learn the market expected $70 billion.
The $20 billion gap sent every AI stock into freefall. CRWV dropped ~8% in a single session. From $89 to $82.
His calls went from $4.25 to $0.02. He lost $126,900 in one afternoon.

"$127K on CRWV weeklies. The thesis was simple. OpenAI needs GPUs." Bought 300 contracts of the $87 call expiring Friday. The DD I read said "GPU go brrr" and had a bar chart with no axis labels. I figured the revenue was a lock. Then the FT dropped the $50B number and every AI name cratered. CRWV went from $89 to $82 in four hours. My calls are worth two cents. I paid four dollars and twenty-five cents. I have learned nothing.
|
| Quick note on weekly options for anyone who hasn't blown up yet: Weekly calls decay faster than any other option contract. If the stock doesn't move in your direction within days, the premium evaporates. Buying $127,500 worth of weeklies on a stock you've researched for three days is not investing. It's a scratch-off ticket with more zeros. |
The DD post he based this on had zero financial analysis and a Telegram link that now returns a 404. The axis labels matter. The revenue matters. The expiration date on your options definitely matters.

TODAY'S CASUALTIES 💀
Not everybody can be Loss of the Day. But these two gave it a real shot.
Let's run through the tape.
Casualty #1: The Uptober Enjoyer
There's a word that echoes through crypto Twitter every October. That word is "Uptober."
Here's what u/uptober_or_die did. He went 60x long ETH at $2,640. That's $46,800 in margin controlling a $2.8 million position.
For context: 60x leverage means a 1.67% move in the wrong direction liquidates you entirely.
The Fed released minutes on October 7 showing zero interest in cutting rates. ETH led all crypto liquidations that day with $311 million wiped.
His position lasted 23 minutes. ETH hit $2,596. Liquidation triggered. $46,800, gone.
The "Uptober" thesis survived exactly 1,380 seconds.

POSITION VALUE -$46,800.00 ▼ LIQUIDATED - 23 MIN HELD 5M 15M 1H 4H ALL

He posted the liquidation receipt with the caption: "is Moonvember a thing?"
It is not a thing. And 60x leverage will make sure it never becomes one.
Casualty #2: The Honeypot Buyer
This one hurts differently. Because the chart still looks good.
u/good_entry_imo found a new AI-themed memecoin on Base chain called $AIDOG. Dog coin meets artificial intelligence. Two hype narratives for the price of one.
He bought $22,400 worth on a Base DEX. The token pumped 3x in two hours. On paper, he was up $44,800.
Then he tried to sell. The transaction reverted. He tried again. Reverted. Different DEX. Reverted.
The smart contract was a honeypot. Buy works. Sell doesn't. His $22,400 is still in his wallet and will never come out.

| ||||||||||||||||||||||||
RECOVERABLE VALUE -$22,400.00 ▼ HONEYPOT - SELL REVERTS 1H 4H 1D 1W ALL
|
"My wallet says I'm up 3x. I cannot sell. What is this." Bought $22,400 of $AIDOG on Base. It 3x'd in two hours. Tried to sell. Transaction reverted. Tried three different DEXs. All revert. The contract only allows buys. The deployer address launched 11 other tokens last week. I checked zero of them before buying.
|
| What's a honeypot contract? A smart contract designed so anyone can buy the token but only the deployer can sell. Your wallet shows a balance. The chart shows a gain. But the sell function reverts every transaction. The money is gone the moment you buy. Free tools like TokenSniffer flag these in seconds. |
The deployer had launched eleven other honeypot tokens in seven days. He checked zero of them before buying.
Eleven. Zero. That's the ratio that matters.

TODAY BY THE NUMBERS 📊
We track the data because the data is funnier than anything we could make up.

The correlation between having a thesis and having any form of risk management remains inversely perfect.
We've tracked this for weeks. A thesis without a risk check is just a diary entry with a brokerage account attached.
See you tomorrow. The numbers will be different. The behavior won't be.
