GM. This is Dumb Money, the only financial newsletter with a 100% loss rate.
Today was an earnings day. You know what that means. Somebody bought weekly calls. Somebody else was providing liquidity to a pool that got drained. And somebody thought leveraging a Bitcoin proxy stock during a crash was a personality trait.
Three stories. Three asset classes. $193K in combined losses. Zero lessons learned.
Here's what we've got today:
🏆 200 SMCI weekly calls before an earnings miss. $78,400 gone overnight.
📉 $67,300 in a Balancer V2 stable pool. Drained by a rounding-error exploit.
⚡ 450 MSTR shares on 3x margin during a Bitcoin crash. Margin call in six days.
🍪 The best cope from today's comment sections.

Nvidia Just Bet Billions on Light
What if instead of moving data with copper wires, they could move it with light? They can, and Nvidia has committed billions of dollars to the photonics companies creating it.
Former Wall Street executive Jason Bodner is calling it Accelerated AI. It moves data faster, carries more and runs cooler… and it could crown a new group of AI winners.
Watch this briefing video now, and get Bodner’s #1 pick, free.
LOSS OF THE DAY 🏆
Every day we crown one person who made the worst financial decision on the internet.
Today's winner did it with options. Specifically, 200 weekly call contracts on a stock that was about to miss earnings by a mile.
Here's the setup. A guy on r/wallstreetbets found Super Micro Computer. The AI server darling. The stock every retail trader assumed could only go up.
He looked at the earnings date. November 3rd. He looked at the analyst consensus. $1.23 EPS.
He decided the beat was a lock. Not just a lock. A guaranteed, can't-miss, mortgage-the-farm lock.
He bought 200 SMCI $50 weekly calls at $3.95 each. Total outlay: $79,000.
Super Micro reported $0.35 EPS. Revenue of $5.02 billion. Both below consensus.
The stock dropped 14% after hours. His 200 calls went from $3.95 to $0.03 overnight.

TOTAL RETURN -$78,400.00 ▼ $79,000.00 (-99.24%) All Time 1D 1W 1M 3M ALL
|
For context: the company had already released preliminary estimates two weeks earlier that came in strong. The setup looked bulletproof.
He read them and loaded up on calls.
"SMCI was supposed to beat." Bought 200 weekly $50 calls at $3.95 each. The AI server trade. Consensus was $1.23 EPS. They reported $0.35. Revenue missed too. Stock dropped 14% AH. My calls are worth $0.03. Top comment: "The stock beat your account to death. Does that count?"
|
| Quick math on weekly options for non-options people: A weekly call expires in days, not months. If the stock doesn't move your way fast, you lose everything. Time decay eats the premium every hour. Buying weeklies into earnings is a coin flip with a 99% downside. |
His post had four words. The market's reply had one: no.

TODAY'S CASUALTIES 💀
Not everybody can be Loss of the Day. But these two gave it a real shot.
Let's run through the tape.
Casualty #1: The "It Was Audited" Guy
Here's the setup. A DeFi user on r/ethfinance had been providing liquidity to Balancer V2 for nine months. Stable pools. The boring kind. The kind that's supposed to be safe.
He had $67,300 in a Composable Stable Pool on Ethereum mainnet. Nine months of compounding yield.
On November 3rd, an attacker exploited a rounding-error vulnerability in Balancer V2's vault logic.
The attacker drained $129 million across six chains in under 30 minutes. Our guy's $67,300 went to zero in one transaction.

POOL BALANCE $0.00 ▼ $67,300.00 (-100%) DRAINED 1H 4H 1D 1W ALL
|
"9 months of yield farming. Gone in one block." Deposited $67,300 into a Balancer V2 Composable Stable Pool in February. Audited eleven times by four different firms. Rounding-error bug in the vault logic had been live for two years. Attacker drained $129M across six chains in 30 minutes. My position went from $67,300 to $0.00 in a single transaction. The yield was 4.8% APY. The loss was 100%.
|
| Quick note on rounding exploits for non-DeFi people: A rounding-error exploit takes advantage of precision loss in how a smart contract calculates token amounts. Think of it like a cash register that drops fractions of a penny on every transaction - except the attacker found a way to collect all those dropped fractions at once. |
That's the part worth understanding. Eleven audits checked the code. None of them caught this. An audit is a snapshot, not a guarantee.
Casualty #2: The Bitcoin-Proxy Believer
This one played out over a full week. Slow and painful.
A trader on r/stocks bought 450 shares of MicroStrategy at $335 per share. On 3x portfolio margin. Total position: $150,750. His own money: $50,250.
His thesis: Bitcoin was heading to $150K by year-end. MSTR was the leveraged play on that conviction.
One problem: Bitcoin dropped from $118K to $91K in six trading days. MSTR followed it down. 31%. From $335 to $231.
His $50,250 in equity shrank to $3,450. Margin call. Forced liquidation.

| ||||||||||||||||||||||||
TOTAL RETURN -$46,800.00 ▼ MARGIN CALL - FORCED SELL 1D 1W 1M 3M ALL
|
Total loss: $46,800. Not in a flash crash. Not from a hack. Just a regular week where Bitcoin did what Bitcoin does.
He posted: "I was right about the thesis. The market just didn't agree yet."
The market agreed on one thing. You were overleveraged.

BITE-SIZED COPIUM FOR THE ROAD 🍪
The best part of any loss thread isn't the screenshot. It's the comments section.
Here are today's greatest hits.
| • | "It was audited eleven times." And exploited once. That's all it takes. - u/three_audits_zero_funds |
| • | "SMCI was a guaranteed beat." Nothing involving the word 'guaranteed' has ever worked out in the history of this newsletter. Not once. - u/earnings_are_easy |
| • | "I'm not overleveraged, I'm overconvicted." That's the same thing. One just sounds better at dinner parties. - u/btc_150k_eoy |
| • | "The thesis hasn't changed." The account balance has. And only one of those two things pays your rent. - u/thesis_intact_balance_not |
Translation: the copium supply chain remains fully operational. Demand is at all-time highs. Quality is declining. Delivery is instant.
See you tomorrow. New losses, fresh copium, same dosage.
