GM. This is Dumb Money, the only financial newsletter with a 100% loss rate.
Today's menu features a man who thought 53% revenue growth wasn't good enough for Wall Street, a flash crash that lasted six minutes, and a yield farm that yielded exactly nothing.
Three stories. Three different ways to turn money into regret.
Here's what we've got today:
🏆 A tech stock earnings play that went wrong in after-hours. $127,500 wrong.
📉 XRP flash crash. 50x leverage. Liquidated before the candle closed.
⚡ An 8,400% APY that turned out to be an exit scam with better branding.
🍪 The best cope from today's comment sections.

Where should you invest $100 right now?
Elon Musk just invented and patented this new AI technology…
And he's predicting it will launch a NEW industry that will grow more than 7 million percent in the coming years.
Even if he's only 10% right, that would still be enough to grow $100 into more than $700,000.
LOSS OF THE DAY 🏆
Every day we crown one person who made the worst financial decision on the internet.
Today's winner thought he cracked the earnings code. He did not crack the earnings code.
Here's the setup. A guy on r/wallstreetbets loaded up on AppLovin weekly call options three days before Q2 earnings.
The company had grown revenue 53% year-over-year in its latest quarter. His thesis was simple: "They literally can't miss."
They missed.
Revenue came in at $1.92 billion. Wall Street expected $1.94 billion. A $20 million gap on a $1.92 billion quarter.
He held 300 weekly $500 call contracts. Total cost: $127,500. By Thursday evening they were worth $0.
He posted the screenshot at 4:47 PM with the caption: "53% growth and they still sold it."

The DD post he referenced has since been deleted. The poster's account is now inactive. The phrase "literally free money" remains the single most expensive sentence on the internet.

TODAY'S CASUALTIES 💀
Not everybody can be Loss of the Day. But these two gave it a real shot.
Let's run through the tape.
Casualty #1: The Flash Crash Cowboy
On August 22nd, the crypto market dropped $108 billion in six minutes. $1.7 billion in positions were liquidated in 24 hours.
Most people saw the crash and closed their apps. u/xrp_moon_2027 opened a position.
Actually, he'd opened it before the crash. 50x long on XRP at $2.48 during the post-rally euphoria.
His thesis: "BTC just squeezed from $63K to $79K. Alts always follow."
XRP did not follow. XRP dropped 37% in minutes.
At 50x leverage, a 2% move wipes you out. He got a 37% move. Liquidated in under six minutes.
$43,600. Gone before the candle closed.

| What 50x leverage actually means: For every 1% the price moves against you, you lose 50% of your position. A 2% move wipes you out entirely. You are betting that a notoriously volatile asset will not move 2% in either direction. During the most volatile week of the year. |
Casualty #2: The Yield Farmer Who Got Harvested
This one stings because the red flags were visible from orbit.
u/yield_king_defi found a new lending protocol on Arbitrum called VaultMaxx. It offered 8,400% APY on stablecoin deposits.
For context: a savings account at a major bank pays about 3.5% APY. VaultMaxx promised 2,400 times that.
He deposited $71,400 in USDC. The protocol had been live for nine days. The smart contract was unaudited. The team was anonymous.
Fourteen hours after his deposit, the admin wallet drained every pool. $3.2 million total, across 340 wallets.
His $71,400 was now $0.00. The Twitter account was deleted. The Discord was archived. The website returned a blank page.

The protocol's one-page whitepaper described its strategy as "algorithmic optimization." It never specified what was being optimized. Turns out it was optimized for taking your money.

BITE-SIZED COPIUM FOR THE ROAD 🍪
The best part of any loss thread isn't the screenshot. It's the comments.
Here are today's greatest hits.
| • | "AppLovin beat on EPS. The market is irrational. I'll be vindicated." You will not be vindicated. Your calls expired three days ago. — u/still_holding_app |
| • | "50x is fine if you set a stop loss." He did set a stop loss. The price gapped through it. That's what flash crashes do. — u/leverage_professor |
| • | "The protocol had a Telegram with 12,000 members." Twelve thousand people can be wrong at the same time. It is actually very easy. — u/defi_detective |
| • | "I only lost money I could afford to lose." Sir, that was your entire Roth IRA. — u/copium_dispenser |
Translation: the copium supply remains at all-time highs. The risk management supply is on backorder.
See you tomorrow. New losses, fresh copium, same dosage.
