GM. This is Dumb Money, the only financial newsletter with a 100% loss rate.
The Nasdaq just had its worst day since August. They're calling it Black Tuesday. Traders who bought the dip are now the dip.
Three stories stood out. One involves weekly calls on a memory stock that fell through the floor. Another involves a leveraged crypto position that lasted less time than a microwave burrito.
Here's what we've got today:
🏆 160 weekly calls on Micron. Black Tuesday arrived the next session.
📈 55x long LINK. Liquidated in 23 minutes during a $771M wipeout.
⛽️ 8 Brent crude contracts betting on war. The de-escalation came instead.
🍪 The best cope from today's comment sections.

Wall Street Is Betting on Dollar Debasement — Here's Why
A major Wall Street trade is back.
It's built around fears that your dollars could buy LESS.
It's called the "debasement trade."
And with America's national debt now past $40 trillion, investors have been moving into scarce assets like gold amid concerns over debt, inflation and the dollar.
Why should retirees care?
Because when inflation erodes purchasing power, the dollars you've saved don't stretch as far.
Your IRA.
Your 401(k).
Your cash savings.
If your retirement depends heavily on dollars, what those dollars can actually buy matters.
Gold surged in August as the debasement trade came roaring back.
We've put together a free guide revealing 3 steps you can consider taking as concerns over America's debt and the dollar intensify.
Wall Street is already paying attention. Are you?
LOSS OF THE DAY 🏆
Every day we crown one person who made the worst financial decision on the internet.
Today's winner didn't just buy the dip. He loaded up on weekly calls right before the dip got a sequel.
Here's the setup. A trader on r/wallstreetbets spotted Micron dropping 4% on October 12. Memory stocks had been sliding for a few days. The forums were calling it a gift.
His thesis: CXMT's progress was old news. AI demand for HBM chips was too strong. The dip was overdone.
He bought 160 MU $1,030 weekly calls at $8.50 each. Total cost: $136,000.
One problem: CXMT wasn't done making news.
On October 13, ChangXin Memory Technologies announced plans to release DDR5 server DRAM by year-end. The entire memory sector cratered. SK Hynix fell 10.1% in Seoul. Samsung dropped 7.4%. The KOSPI triggered a sell-side Sidecar mechanism.
MU opened at $1,002.45 on October 13 and closed at $989.04. His $1,030 calls went from $8.50 to $0.05.
$135,200. Gone in one session.

"bought the dip. the dip bought me." Loaded up on 160 MU weeklies after a 4% pullback because "CXMT is old news" and "AI demand is unstoppable." Then CXMT announced DDR5 server DRAM plans and every memory stock on Earth died. My DD was 47 rocket emojis and a chart with one arrow pointing up. I am not a financial advisor. Top comment: "The arrow was pointing up. The portfolio was not."
|
| Quick math on weekly options: A weekly call on a $1,000 stock loses value every hour even if the stock doesn't move. That's theta decay. When the stock moves against you and you're already out of the money with days left, the option doesn't slowly decline. It evaporates. |
The DD post that sold him had zero mention of CXMT, zero mention of China's DRAM roadmap, and zero financial analysis. Just rockets and conviction.
That's the part worth understanding. The dip was real. The thesis for buying it was not.

TODAY'S CASUALTIES 💀
Not everybody can be Loss of the Day. But these two gave it a real shot.
Let's run through the tape.
Casualty #1: The LINK Marine Who Drowned
There's a particular kind of confidence that comes from being right about a coin for three years. It makes you forget that leverage doesn't care about your conviction.
u/link_marine_og went 55x long on Chainlink at $13.49. His thesis: LINK was oversold after a 6% weekly decline. The cross-chain narrative was intact.
Bitcoin dropped below $82,000 on October 12. It took $771 million in leveraged positions with it.
LINK fell from $13.49 to $12.85 in the cascade. That's a 4.7% drop. He only needed 1.8% to get liquidated.
His position lasted 23 minutes. $43,800, gone.

|
"the oracle told me everything except when to sell" Went 55x long LINK at $13.49 because cross-chain is the future. BTC dropped below $82K and took $771M in leveraged positions with it. My $43,800 was part of that number. Top comment: "Chainlink delivered the price data for your own liquidation. Poetic."
|
| Quick math on 55x leverage: At 55x, your liquidation price is 1.8% away from your entry. A normal Tuesday afternoon in crypto can move 1.8%. This is not a trade. This is a coin flip with a $43,800 entry fee. |
Not because LINK is a bad project. Because 55x leverage on any asset during a macro selloff is a financial death wish.

Casualty #2: The Oil Bull Who Bet on War
This one's a different flavor of wrong.
u/crude_awakening_26 went long 8 Brent crude futures contracts at $106.65 per barrel. His thesis: Saudi-Houthi tensions were escalating. Oil was heading to $115.
He had charts. He had satellite imagery links. He had a 14-tweet thread with the words "supply shock incoming" in all caps.
One problem: the supply shock didn't come. The de-escalation did.
Brent dropped from $106.65 to $105 in two sessions. On 8 contracts, that's $13,200 in margin calls.
For context: each Brent crude contract is 1,000 barrels. A $1.65 per-barrel move against you on 8 contracts is 8,000 barrels of pain.

UNREALIZED P&L -$13,200.00 ▼ MARGIN CALL ISSUED 06:12 ET 1H 4H 1D 1W ALL | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
|
Here's the thing. Oil is still above $100. He wasn't wrong about the direction long-term. He was wrong about the timing. And in futures, timing is the entire trade.

BITE-SIZED COPIUM FOR THE ROAD 🍪
The best part of any loss thread isn't the screenshot. It's the comments section.
Here are today's greatest hits.
| • | "CXMT can't actually mass-produce DDR5. The announcement is vaporware." Brother, your calls expired worthless. The announcement doesn't need to be real. The selloff was. - u/still_holding_mu |
| • | "I'm not overleveraged, I'm overconvicted." That's not a word. And even if it were, it wouldn't be a defense. - u/link_marine_og |
| • | "Oil will hit $120 by December. I'm just early." Your margin call doesn't have a December expiry. It has a right-now expiry. - u/crude_awakening_26 |
| • | "At least I didn't use a second mortgage this time." Progress. Genuinely. Low bar, but cleared. - u/bought_the_dip_2026 |
Translation: the copium supply remains at all-time highs. The self-awareness supply has been backordered since 2021.
See you tomorrow. New losses, fresh copium, same dosage.
